Pennsylvania’s COVID numbers dire again

Another day, another unfortunate report from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

This time, the DOH reported the highest number of deaths in a single day since mid-May. On Tuesday, the DOH reported 180 deaths due to COVID-19 — the most in one day since 275 were reported May 14.

The state reported 5,676 new cases of COVID-19 for a new statewide total of 367,140. There have been  10,563 COVID-19 fatalities in Pennsylvania.

In Allegheny County, there were 603 new COVID-19 cases added for a new total of 29,007 and eight new deaths — that total now sits at 518. 

Since Monday, there has been an increase of 16 COVID-19 patients hospitalized for a new total of 626. Ten more are in the ICU for a new total of 181 and there are nine more patients on ventilators for a total of 99.  

In Fayette County, there were 68 new cases for a new total of have been 2,299 cases and three new deaths for a total of 22. Twenty-five COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized, including one in the ICU.

In Washington County, there were 112 new cases reported Tuesday for a new total of 4,721. No new deaths were reported.

There are three new patients hospitalized for a new total of 86 and three more in the ICU for a total of 15. Six remain on ventilators.

In Westmoreland County, there were 199 new cases Tuesday for a new total of 9,460. There were also five more deaths reported, bringing that total to 204.

There remain 107 Westmoreland County residents currently hospitalized and 17 in the ICU. There is one less patient on a ventilator in the county, for a current total of 12.
