Thomas Jefferson has historically played well when having the opportunity to compete for a state championship.
The Jaguars are 4-0 all time in state championship games, including a dominant 46-7 win over Dallas last season.
This afternoon, they’ll be looking to remain unbeaten in state title games and bring home yet another championship when they return to Hersheypark Stadium for the second straight year to face off against Jersey Shore in the PIAA Class 4A championship game.
A fifth title would give TJ the most championships of any team in the WPIAL.
“Most of these kids have been here before, but now they’re much more involved and playing now,” Thomas Jefferson head coach Bill Cherpak said. “For them, it’s their chance and their time now. They’re all excited and they’re motivated. If you can’t get motivated for this, you shouldn’t be playing.”
Experience may be the biggest factor once the opening kickoff is sent into the air later today.
Jersey Shore (10-0) is making its first ever trip to Hershey for the PIAA championship game. Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson (9-1) has plenty of experience playing for the largest prize in the state.
“The kids know what to expect. They’ve played there, they’ve played at Heinz Field and they’ve played in big games,” Cherpak said. “All of that definitely helps.”
