The Ringgold School District announced Friday that all its schools will adopt full remote learning for the next two weeks.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education recommended the move after Washington County was labeled in the substantial community transmission rate for COVID-19 for the second consecutive week.
According to the PDE, a county is considered in the substantial transmission level if it sees more than 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents or if the county sees more than a 10% positivity rate for a seven-day period.
If fewer than 10 new cases are reported in a county in the most recent seven-day reporting period, the county will automatically qualify as exhibiting a low level of community transmission.
Students are scheduled to return to classrooms Dec. 7.
“We mentioned it at our last board meeting and here we are,” said school board President Bill Stein. “It wasn’t likely (the transmission rate) wasn’t going to go down this second week.”
