Elizabeth’s Guardian Angels seeks more for Thanksgiving take-out

A volunteer group in Elizabeth Township is preparing to feed more than 60 people for Thanksgiving, but they’d like to be feeding many more.

Elizabeth’s Guardian Angels, a small group of four officers and a few volunteers now and then, is planning a take-out Thanksgiving dinner that can be picked up between 4 and 7 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Rock Run Inn at Butler’s Golf Course.

The meals will be prepared by the chef at the inn and will be served hot and ready to eat in microwave-safe containers.

“There are only four of us and we thought we would be bombarded by people reaching out to us for help because of the pandemic, but we really haven’t been. Maybe it was the stimulus checks,” said Stephanie Squibb, president of Elizabeth’s Guardian Angels.

“We’re also reaching out to Meals on Wheels. We have quite a large number of elderly in the community. We have a bus driver from the school district who is going to deliver the meals for us.”

Squibb said the meals are being provided with no questions asked. She hopes anyone who needs a meal will reach out for the assistance.

“We really enjoy doing it. We just wish more people would take advantage of it,” Squibb said.

Joe Goellner, manager at Butler’s Golf Course and treasurer of Elizabeth’s Guardian Angels, said this is the third year for the holiday meal. The first two years attracted 60 to 70 participants. Goellner said individuals in need aren’t always willing to ask for the help.

“We’ve had neighbors or family members pick up meals,” Goellner said. “All we ever ask are how many meals do you need and when would you like to pick them up? That’s all we need to know.”
