Elizabeth Forward launches annual food drive

After 11 years of coming up with catchy phrases to promote the Elizabeth Forward Area School District’s annual food drive, there wasn’t any need to think about this year’s slogan.

“I was discussing it with a group of teachers and  someone said ‘What more evidence do we need other than it’s 2020?’” said Jennifer Eisenreich, the drive’s coordinator.

And so 2020 it is, the shortest summary of need in the community Eisenreich can remember.

Eisenreich started the food drive 12 years ago when she was the principal at Elizabeth Forward Middle School. Eisenreich is now the principal for Greenock and Mount Vernon Elementary schools and the food drive is district-wide.

Over the past 12 years, the drive has become EF’s largest charitable effort, raising more than $15,000 in cash and many tons of food.

“It really caught on,” Eisenreich said. “We’ve announced it to the whole staff in the district and they let their students know about it.”

Flyers have been sent home so parents know the types of items to send back to the schools with their children. Items such as paper products, toiletry items, non-perishable prepackaged foods, baby items and pet food are always welcome.
