Washington County will receive help from the state to upgrade its comprehensive plan.
On Thursday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced the approval of six projects — and $228,000 to complete them — through the Municipal Assistance Program to assist local governments with zoning, emergency services and comprehensive plans.
Funding from MAP, administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, helps local governments plan for and efficiently implement municipal projects available in three groups of activities: shared services, community planning and floodplain management.
Washington County will receive $55,000 to update its comprehensive plan, which was originally completed back in 2005.
By updating the plan, the county will create an upgraded large-scale blueprint for growth and development.
As part of the project, county officials will look at land use globally and establish targeted areas of investment for economic development, primarily parks, open space and greenways.
