MVI Shootout Classic taking shape

By Mon Valley Independent

We are less than a month away from what could be one of the top opening weekend basketball tournaments in the WPIAL.

The Mon Valley Independent Shootout Classic will be held Dec. 11-12 at Ringgold High School.

The tournament reimagines the former Mon Valley Shootout and Daily News Classics that were held years ago.

“The field in this tournament is phenomenal and we’re looking forward to two great days of games in the gym,” MVI board member Naz Victoria said.
Each participant in this year’s tournament is not only local, but is coming off a playoff season with many returning their core players.

The tournament is rounding into shape.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 196 tickets will be available for each contest. The gym will be cleared after the conclusion of each game before spectators for the ensuing games will be permitted inside.

Participating teams will have the opportunity to buy presold tickets with the remaining tickets being sold at the door. Once the 196 tickets are sold, sales will be cut off.

“As much as we wish we could have a packed gym for the event, we’re doing what we can to facilitate spectators,” Victoria said.
