A Charleroi couple is concerned for the safety of their tenants as a neighboring home is in jeopardy of falling onto their property.
Frank and Dolores Coppi have owned their property at 514 Washington Ave. since 1998. The house next door at 512 Washington Ave. is in disrepair and leaning on their house.
Dolores Coppi said it has been a problem for nearly a year, but the solution isn’t simple because of the circumstances surrounding the home.
Coppi said she first addressed council last December as cracks started to appear in the sidewalk in front of her property and an overgrown tree began to lean closer to her garage.
Those issues were addressed by Charleroi code enforcement, but the house continued to shift.
Coppi said she went to a council meeting in April to again express her concern.
“The house has been leaning for a while,” she said. “When we first told them about the garage and the sidewalk, it was leaning, but it was not what it is right now.”
On Oct. 21, her attorney, Thomas Kostolansky, sent council members a letter requesting they take steps to have the property owners “cure certain defects of the property.”
However, according to Washington County tax records, the home is owned by J. Regis and Rosaline Carroll, who died in 2014 and 2019, respectively.
Taxes have not been paid on the condemned property since 2018.
