Donora’s proposed budget keeps taxes at current level

Donora Borough Council plans to accept a preliminary budget that will hold the line on taxes at its voting meeting next Thursday.

Borough Administrator Terri Petroske and council finance Chair Jane Ackerman presented the 2021 preliminary budget during last night’s workshop meeting.

Petroske said the budget is balanced, has no tax increase, includes the raises that are part of the new police contract and earmarks $33,000 for new equipment.

Mayor Jim McDonough said he was surprised about how much money was leftover with everything the borough did this year.

After council looked over the preliminary spending plan and agreed on it, Petroske said there will be no need to hold a special meeting in December this year to pass the budget.

Because council expects to pass the preliminary budget next week, that draft will be on display until the December voting meeting, which meets the 10-day minimum required. Barring any changes, council can hold a final vote on its passage at its usual December meeting instead of needing to schedule something later in the month just for that vote as has become typical the last few years.
