Mayetta ‘Mitzi’ Jean Gross – Elizabeth

By obits

Mayetta “Mitzi” Jean Gross, 74, of Elizabeth, went home to heaven Oct. 25, 2020. She was born at her home in West Newton on May 15, 1946, to the late Robert “Hoppy” and Hunteretta Boyd Smith. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 42 years, Herb; her infant son, Timothy Drew; her brothers, Robert Smith Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., Thomas D. Smith Sr. of West Newton and Dennis Smith of Jacobs Creek. Mitzi graduated from Pittsburgh Beauty Academy in 1967 and owned and operated her salon “Imagery” for many years. She was the secretary of Cash Registers Unlimited Inc. for 53 years. She was also the dedicated secretary of The Church Christian Academy in Sutersville. She is survived by her only daughter, Jeffri Lyn (Brandon) Hurst of Franklin, Tenn.; her granddaughter, Ariele, who she adored beyond words; a sister, Judith N. Backstrom of West Newton; and many well-loved nieces and nephews. She was embraced as beloved “Moom” to her many “adopted” daughters and sons. Although she left her cherished earthly church family of 31 years behind, she joyfully reunited with many of her very best friends who were already waiting for her in heaven. Moom’s imprint on the people that love her will always remain. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences at www.watersfuneralhome.net. ROBERT A. WATERS FUNERAL HOME INC., is in charge of the arrangements.
