Bears ready to dominate and execute

Execute on offense, dominate on defense.

It’s a simple formula for the Clairton Bears. Nothing changes at this point in the season as the Bears (7-0) prepare for another WPIAL semifinal game, this time against Shenango (7-1) at Norwin High School.

“I think we are similar, we just play a different style,” Clairton coach Wayne Wade said. “We like to spread you out and move guys around. Shenango, they like to play two tight, power football and come right at you. Both of us, though, we like to play hard, tough football.”

The Wildcats advanced to the semifinals with a 28-21 win at California last week, scoring late in the fourth quarter after blowing a 14-point lead.

The Bears had little issue dispatching Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 54-20.

Dontae Sanders was the big story in that one, carrying the ball 19 times for 428 yards and six touchdowns. Undoubtedly, he’s on the radar as the player to stop for the Wildcats’ defense, which is allowing only 12.5 points per game.

“We expect that, but it’s easier said than done. Dontae’s having a ton of success and it helps that he’s 6-2, 245 pounds and runs a 4.5-4.6 40-yard dash,” Wade said.

Sanders took over the WPIAL rushing lead after last week and now has 1,624 yards on the season on 100 carries. He’s scored 26 touchdowns.
