The way has been cleared for work to begin on the pressurized sewer line that runs from Buena Vista to the sewage treatment plant in McKeesport.

Elizabeth Township Commissioners approved rights-of-way agreements Monday with the Regional Trail Corporation to install the line along 13 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail and with CSX and Dura-Bond for easements on their properties as well.

The agreement with the Regional Trail Corporation calls for the township to pay a one-time document processing fee of $2,500, a one-time license fee of $265,000 and an annual fee of $12,000.

Commissioners voted unanimously to hire Macson  Construction, owned by Dave Macioce of Elizabeth Township, as clerk of the works to oversee the force main project on behalf of the township at a rate of $150 an hour.

“I think spending a small amount up front is going to save us a lot of money in the future,” Commissioner Dan Poirier said.
