If California University of Pennsylvania students are ready to come back to class, they will have that option this spring.
On Monday, the university announced it will offer about 50% of undergraduate courses on campus this spring.
Those classes will primarily be labs, studio and performance courses, along with other hands-on learning experiences. Other courses will continue to be offered through real-time remote learning, a hybrid approach, or 100% online.
The plan for spring is a shift from Cal U’s Level 4 remote learning plan currently in place and lowers it to a Level 3 learning model, which permits selective on-campus activity starting Jan. 25.
Dr. Daniel Engstrom, interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, said it’s in the best interest of students and staff.
“Both students and faculty, especially those in experiential courses, tell us they need those hands-on learning opportunities,” Engstrom said. “With stringent protocols in place to mitigate risk — and with the cooperation of our entire campus community — we believe we can resume teaching some courses in person while maintaining a healthful environment for our students, faculty and staff.”
