New music coming from Gene the Werewolf

Friday the 13th might be considered an unlucky day for the superstitious, but local rock and roll fans can rejoice when the ominous date arrives in a couple of weeks.

Local rockers Gene the Werewolf recently announced they’ll release new music with their new single, “I Should’ve Known Better,” which will drop on Nov. 13.

Fans can pre-save the song on Spotify, which will automatically put it in listeners’ playlists beginning that morning. The song will also be available on internet music sources such as Apple Music and iTunes.

“It’s definitely us, this one is kind of like our old songs,” said singer and Belle Vernon resident Jon Belan. “We were influenced by classic bands like AC/DC and Kiss, but this one is very modern, sort of like Rival Sons or the Killers. It’s still a rocker, though.”

With the help of Swissvale-based producer Sean McDonald, who plays drums on the new track, the band utilized modern technology during the COVID-19 pandemic to capture its old-school hard rock.

“This time around, we didn’t have the opportunity to get together so we used Zoom meetings to write,” Belan explained. “We were doing the tracks at my house and sending them over the internet to Sean’s home studio. We didn’t do drums at my house.”
