Authority of the Borough of Charleroi: Water shutoff policy clarified

The Authority of the Borough of Charleroi issued a statement Friday to clarify Wednesday’s announcement that its water termination moratorium would soon be lifted.

The Authority said while the phased lifting goes into effect Dec. 1, only customers illegally receiving water service from the Authority and any customers that the Mon Valley Sewage Authority has requested to be shut off are in danger of having their service disconnected between Dec. 1 and Feb. 1.

The Authority says The Mon Valley Sewage Authority must be contacted directly for questions related to its accounts as the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi does not have the ability or authorization to review MVSA’s accounts. According to the Authority, termination procedures for delinquent ABC bills will only occur when the payment plan sign-up period ends Feb. 1. Only then will final notices be sent and posting of properties will begin.

The Authority also said the length of the payment plan for those who sign up will be directly related to the current balance that is owed.
