Washington County Commissioner Nick Sherman has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a prepared statement issued shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sherman, 41, confirmed he contracted the virus and that he has been instructed by the Washington Health System to self-quarantine for two weeks.
Sherman said he was experiencing a headache and flu-like symptoms Thursday.
The commissioner said he shared information about his positive test result in an attempt to be transparent.
“Fortunately, I have contact traced it back to a friend from over the weekend and have taken the appropriate steps to contact people I interacted with,” Sherman wrote.
He said he plans to work from home via Zoom, conference calls and other means, and that he’s instructed his assistant Patrick Geho to do the same “out of an abundance of caution.”
“(Geho) and other commissioners’ staff have been encouraged to be tested for their well-being,” Sherman wrote. “Currently, my office and meeting rooms are being cleaned and disinfected. The commissioners and I routinely wear masks in public, and masks are required for everyone in the courthouse. In addition, everyone entering our offices have their temperatures checked.”
