Burning has been temporarily suspended in Fallowfield Township.
During a business meeting Wednesday night, supervisors unanimously agreed to no longer issue burn permits to residents before receiving further information from the DEP.
According to Chairman Bruce Smith, the township received a complaint several weeks ago about a resident burning rabid animals on their property.
The complaint was forwarded to the Department of Environmental Protection, who informed the township no burning is permitted.
Supervisors are unsure how to proceed after updating their burning ordinance last spring to adhere with new guidelines.
Fallowfield Township Solicitor Tom Agrafiotis said he has information on file sent to him by the DEP’s regional office in California nearly two years ago when he was drafting a new ordinance for the township.
“Unless something has drastically changed in the last year and a half, those are the same documents provided to me,” Agrafiotis said.
