Frazier’s volleyball team closed out its home schedule on a winning note in a 3-0 sweep over Burgettstown in the preliminary round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs Tuesday at Henry DiVirgilio Field House.

The Commodores (10-5) play at No. 4 Deer Lakes 7 p.m. Thursday in a first-round matchup.

“It was nice to play in this preliminary game, especially for this year’s team,” Frazier coach Mandy Hartman said. “It was also really nice to play this one at home. It was great for our seniors to win one last time on this court. We are excited to play Deer Lakes. We know it will be a challenge, but we are looking forward to it.”

Frazier has made the playoffs every year since Hartman took over as head coach in 1998, and the veteran coach believes her players appreciate the tradition the school has.

“I take a lot of pride in being a part of the volleyball program here at Frazier,” Hartman said. “The two ladies that coached before me, I still see as mentors. There have only been three coaches in the history of the program. I think that culture really pushes these kids because they know what the expectation is.”
