Pauline J. Wadsworth, known as “Aunt Paul,” went to be with her Lord, Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020. Born Oct. 11, 1929, in Victory Hill, she was the daughter of George and Eleanor Leach Johnson, she lived her early years in Crescent Heights, the California area, and Courtney. Her adult life was spent in Monongahela, where she was a poll worker and a member of the Turners Club. From childhood through much of her adult life, she was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church working diligently for the English tea, the fish fry, and the grocery bingo. When in later years, she became a member of True Vine Anglican Church, she continued her support of activities such as congratulatory cards when her health allowed. Pauline was a proud Bell Telephone operator for 37 years and a giving member of its charity arm, The Pioneers Club. Pauline married her childhood sweetheart, Charles Wadsworth in 1949, and that began adventures in traveling, camping and picnics at every lake and park around. She much enjoyed bingo with her sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson, earning them the “Lucy and Ethel” nickname. Her favorite memories though were of the family gatherings at Thanksgiving, picnics and roasts at her riverfront home. Being with her nieces and nephews was paramount to her, and she was loving and generous with them. Family and friends will remember the delicious raviolis (which she learned to make at Theresa’s restaurant, her first employer), the “monkey food” treat bags at Christmas, the pizzelles and the “oh, so good” peanut butter balls. Her joy was giving. Aunt Pauline will be sorely missed by her sister, Patricia Mikula; her loving caregivers, niece and nephew, Sandra and Sam Cover; beloved godchildren, Cindy Johnson (Gerald) Andriechack, Debra Johnson (Terry) Smith, George “Butchie” (Gerry) Johnson, and Edward (Jane) Burzynski; in-laws, Betty Crouse, Joe Wadsworth and Gloria Wadsworth; many nieces and nephews including James (Ann) Johnson, Mary Mikula Apicella, Jeff, Ed and Dave Mikula; plus many dear friends are also saddened by her passing. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles, in 2015; brother, George Johnson and wife Carolyn; much-loved sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Ed Burzynski; brother-in-law, Ed Mikula; and beloved nieces, Jennifer Andriechack Budney and Cathy Mikula Sawi. The staff and residents at Hallsworth House in Monessen where Pauline lived the last three years showed extraordinary kindness and care to her and will always be remembered by her family. They became part of her family, and she loved them all. As she wished, there will be no viewing. Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life memorial ceremony at the True Vine Church as soon as it can safely be done. Burial will be in Monongahela Cemetery.
