Clairton’s football program made history Friday, blasting Springdale, 45-10, for the 700th win in school history.
In addition to the milestone, the Bears wrapped up the Class A Eastern Conference title.
Dontae Sanders continued his mastery of the offense, rushing for 213 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Jonte Sanders threw two touchdown passes and Clairton’s defense locked down in the red zone on multiple occasions.
However, the history made was the story of the night.
Head coach Wayne Wade was overcome with emotion after the game. He presented the game ball to Davlin Mullen, who played for Clairton in the 1970s and went on to play for the New York Jets in the NFL.
“I’ve been involved (in this program) as a player, as a coach and as a kid growing up watching,” Wade said. “I watched both of (Mullen’s) younger brothers play up here. It means a ton to me, knowing that guys like Mullen helped me get to where I am.”
Clairton (6-0, 6-0) joins Jeannette, New Castle, Aliquippa, Washington and Greensburg Salem in the 700 club.
