Rostraver cops to deliver treats for township kids with medical issues

The coronavirus pandemic isn’t stopping Halloween festivities in Rostraver Township, not even for those children who may need to isolate for medical reasons.
The township is not only sponsoring a Goblin Hunt at 1 p.m. October 31 at DiVirgilio Sports Complex and setting Halloween trick or treat hours from 3 to 6 p.m. that day, it is also offering a program for children whose health may not allow them to participate in those activities.
Trick or treat with Rostraver Township police will be held simultaneously with the regular trick or treat hours, with police officers going to the homes of children who may not be able to go out of their homes because of COVID-19 issues or immune systems compromised by cancer treatments or other medical conditions.
“We’re happy to work with the board of commissioners on this effort,” said Police Chief Greg Resetar. “We don’t want these children to be excluded from the social participation of trick or treat.”
Resetar said parents of children who are unable to go out to trick or treat or participate in the Goblin Hunt for health reasons may contact the township office at 724-929-8877 to register.
“They’re taking addresses and the number of children in the household who would meet this criteria,” Resetar said.
According to the township flyer about the event, Trick or Treat with the Rostraver Police is only for Rostraver Township residents and is not a substitute for those that can participate in traditional Trick or Treating. The township is working in partnership with the Belle Vernon Area School District for the program, though only Rostraver residents may participate due to limited resources this year.
Resetar said the township is also receiving referrals from school nurses regarding children who may qualify for the special delivery Halloween treats by the township police.
