A positive COVID-19 case has been verified in a staff member at Elizabeth Forward Middle School, but so far no other people have been affected.

According to Superintendent Dr. Todd Keruskin, the district conducted contact tracing once the positive case was identified and has been working with the Allegheny County Health Department to make sure all protocols are followed.

“Everybody was notified who was possibly exposed. No one needs to be quarantined at this time,” Keruskin said.

To comply with confidentiality, the district has not identified whether the staff person was a teacher or a support, custodial or clerical staff member.

Keruskin said the district will continue to follow all the guidelines provided by the county health department.

“We continue to spray our rooms and clean our rooms regularly,” he said. “One of the critical things is our parents doing self-checks every day before they send their students to school and keeping sick students at home.”

In a letter posted on the district website, Keruskin asked parents to continue to use the at-home screening tools.

“If your child becomes symptomatic or may have been in close contact with a positive case, your child needs to stay home and please notify the school nurse immediately,” Keruskin wrote in the letter.
