Washington Township police and supervisors warn residents to lock their vehicle doors.
During last week’s board of supervisors meeting, Lt. Tim Lemley said officers still get reports of cars being broken into in various parts of town.
Supervisor Jan Amoroso also urged residents to report it when their car gets broken into and to dial 911 if they catch someone in the act.
“We’re still getting those car break-ins here and there,” Lemley said. “Just keep locking your cars.”
Lemley said most of the break-ins are still being reported in the Lynnwood section of the township but that some have recently been reported in Arnold City and in other parts of town.
He said in most cases, the cars were left unlocked, but that there were one or two instances where the culprit “busted the lock out.”
Amoroso said to play it safe by not leaving valuable items in their vehicle or in plain view when the vehicle is unattended.
“I don’t know why you have to say this but there are still people who leave laptops, purses, wallets in plain sight in their cars. Just don’t do that,” Amoroso said. “It’s just common sense. I mean if there’s nothing to see, they’re not going to break in.”
