Doris M. Hughes, 92, of Monongahela, formerly of Donora, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at her home. She was born May 11, 1928, in Donora, a daughter of the late Dominic and Virginia Zenobi Forlini. She was Catholic by faith, a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish and was active in the Christian Mothers and Women’s Guild and the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. Doris volunteered faithfully every week at the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Monessen with at the Donora Meals on Wheels. She worked as a seamstress for 40 years, most recently at Donora Sportswear. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Hughes, on Aug. 23, 2004; and one brother, Dino Forlini. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna Simmen and husband Oscar of Monongahela, with whom she made her home; two grandsons, David (Jamie) Simmen of Westminster, Md., and Daniel Simmen of West Mifflin; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Madison and Kennedy; one sister, Mary Kuma of Pittsburgh; one sister-in-law, Helen Forlini of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. At Doris’ request, visitation will be private. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at noon Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at the Donora campus of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Private entombment will take place at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for the loving care that they provided for our mother. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 1 Park Manor Road, Donora, PA 15033, or to Amedisys Hospice, 100 Stoops Drive, Ste. 300, Monongahela, PA 15063, in memory of their beloved mother and grandmother.
