A McKeesport police officer involved in a motorcycle crash last week near the McKeesport/White Oak border is on the mend.

Community members are showing their support for Det. Joe Osinski and his family by raising money via an online GoFundMe crowdsource funding page and raffle ticket sales.

Allegheny County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #91 on Oct. 6 announced that Osinski, the FOP’s financial secretary, had been in the crash and suffered serious injuries.

The Allegheny County Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the crash, which occurred at 3:04 p.m. Oct. 5 near the intersection of Long Run Road (state Route 48) and Ripple Road, according to ACPD Insp. Michael Peairs, who said a second vehicle — a Buick driven by a 21-year-old female who has not been identified — was involved in the crash. The unidentified woman suffered minor injuries, according to ACPD.

McKeesport police Chief Adam Alfer said Osinski was not on duty at the time of the accident and thanked Mon Valley and McKeesport residents and first responders who have reached out to offer their well wishes and prayers to the Osinski family.

FOP #91 President Vince DiCenzo Jr. on Saturday issued a statement via social media updating the public about Osinski’s condition.

“Just got home from visiting Financial Secretary Joe Osinski in step down at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital,” DiCenzo said. “Joe is in great spirits and stated that they have completed his surgery. His injuries are all on his right side, shoulder, hip, pelvis and knee plus some road rash!!

“Joe wants to thank everyone for the texts, calls and thoughts and prayers. Later today, the plan is to sit him up in a chair and next week to move him out of the hospital environment into (a) rehab facility. Because of his injuries, Joe is trying to respond to the texts but even though he is left-handed cannot respond to all!!”
