Richard Stofko, 81, of North Strabane Township, formerly of Carroll Town-ship, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at the Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House, following a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born Dec. 25, 1938, in North Charleroi, a son of the late Michael and Nita Stofko. Richard graduated from Donora High School and worked as a printer at the Valley Independent newspaper in Monessen. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, was an honor graduate of his basic training group and served in Germany from 1961-1963. Richard retired from a distinguished 28-year career with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, where he worked as a revenue agent. He was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal worship site of St. Oscar Romero Parish and a charter member of the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center in Washington. Richard had an enthusiasm for life, enjoyed traveling and took cruises to destinations across the world. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Dolores, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on Aug. 28, 2020. Also surviving are his son, Gary and his wife Hanna; and grandson, Gabriel Richard of Alexandria, Va.; his brother, Daniel of Clifton, Va.; his sister, Carole Yetsconish and husband Mike of Fayette City; as well as numerous cousins and other relatives. Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, in SALANDRA FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike St., Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 300 Pike St., Meadowlands, with the Reverend Carmen D’Amico as celebrant. Everyone attending is asked to please meet at church and wear a protective face mask, due to the current COVID-19 situation. Private interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
