Hillers deal Leps first loss

Two goals in two minutes were too tough for Belle Vernon Area to overcome for in a 2-1 loss at Trinity in Section 3-3A play Thursday.
The Hillers (8-2, 8-2) avenged a 1-0 loss from earlier in the season to hand the Leopards their first loss of the year and bring Belle Vernon’s record to 10-1.
It was a Groundhog Day situation for the Leopards (10-1, 9-1), who lost their first game of the season to Trinity last year as well.
After Trinity scored a pair of goals in a dominating first half, Belle Vernon Area’s Nick Nagy cut the deficit in half with 18 minutes remaining in the match. Nagy caught a pass in the box, settled the ball and booted it past Hillers goalkeeper Colby Thomas to put the Leopards on the board.
Nagy’s goal rejuvenated the team, which had been firing everything it had at the Hillers and Thomas for much of the second half to no avail.
Twelve minutes into the second half, BVA had three consecutive corner kick attempts thwarted, either on balls that just missed the cage or by the blue and white defense.
“We had some opportunities and just couldn’t get that second goal to tie it. I thought we had the field tilted our way,” said Belle Vernon Area head coach Rob Miele.
