Warriors shut out Wildcats

During a halftime meeting with his team Tuesday, Elizabeth Forward head coach Doug Finke preached the importance of movement off the ball.
He noticed East Allegheny was man-marking in the midfield and was making it difficult for the Warriors to create any space, limiting them to just five shots and one late goal.
EF found a way to create more space and inevitably develop more chances in the second half, scoring three goals to gain separation en route to a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats in Section 1-2A play at Warrior Stadium.
“In the second half, we really put it all together,” Finke said. “We stressed that we had to make sure we were moving off the ball and doing things to create space for each other, and I think we did that. Getting three goals kinda shows that we were able to do what we were preaching there.”
East Allegheny (3-7, 2-7) didn’t make it easy for EF.
The Wildcats kept the Warriors scoreless for a large portion of the first half and packed it in on defense.
“They pack it in and they put 11 guys from pretty much the 40-yard line in,” Finke said. “They make it tough for you to find any passing lanes and if you’re stagnant, you’re not going to find guys. They make it tough for you to find the space to create and it took us awhile to adjust.”
