Saturday car show to benefit Bag Brigade

The second annual Belle Vernon Starbucks Car Show is moving full steam ahead. 

Organizer Katie Chermely said last year’s event, which benefits the Bag Brigade, was a success.

The Bag Brigade was started about five years ago by Kathy Kelly and Ashley Eisengart after seeing a need at Marion Elementary School.

It has grown each year and provides hundreds of packed meals for underprivileged children in the school district.

The second annual car show was temporarily up in the air while organizers waited for approval from corporate sponsors to host the event. They recently received approval and got to work seeking donations and support. 

The community was generous in donating to the event, which is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Advance Auto Parts parking lot in Rostraver Township.

“We were dealing with a few hurdles and trying to be as cautious as we can,” Chermely said, “but when we got the OK we started reaching out to our partners and people who participated last year and the response has been really amazing.”

About 50 cars participated in 2019 and the event raised $1,500 in cash and $500 in food donations for the Bag Brigade. 

“We are not really sure what to expect this year because it has been quite the year with COVID, but we would love to see a bigger turnout,” Chermely said. “We will see, but so far things have been going in our favor. We have great food vendors and have already received a few cash donations. So we are just crossing our fingers and hoping for the best.”
