The Belle Vernon Area boys soccer team scored five goals on rebounds and got a hat trick from Dylan Rathway in an 8-1 victory over Greensburg Salem in Section 3-3A Tuesday.

It was the Leopards’ 13th section win in a row and gives them the opportunity to clinch a second straight section title Thursday at Trinity.

“We have a bad taste in our mouth from the game last year at their place,” BVA coach Rob Miele said. “They embarrassed us plain and simple. So I think that is some motivation and throw in the motivation that we can win the section. I think we have everything that we need.”

The Leopards (10-0, 9-0) came out of the gates firing early but Greensburg Salem keeper Patrick Galvin held the Leps at bay in the early minutes, keeping the Golden Lions (2-7, 1-7) close.

“I think we got a little bit discouraged by the saves he was making,” Miele said. “Instead of realizing we were playing really well and getting opportunities, we tried to do a little too much individually.”
