Gov. Wolf eases crowd limits with sliding scale

Rules concerning crowd size restrictions are changing again.

On Tuesday, Gov. Tom Wolf and Department of Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine announced an amendment to a July 15 order that limited indoor gatherings to 25 people and outdoor events to 250.

The rules, which go into effect Friday, will allow much larger crowds at a range of events, including school sports.

Under the amendment, occupancy limits at venues will play a role to determine how many people are allowed inside or outside venues across the state.

Wolf’s restrictions will apply to fairs, festivals, concerts or shows and groupings that occur within larger, more permanent businesses, such as shows or performances at amusement parks, individual showings of movies, business meetings or conferences or a party or reception in a multi-room venue.

The orders amend two sections of the July 15 mitigation orders and include a “maximum occupancy calculator” for both indoor and outdoor events.
