Sadler’s big game leads C-H over Charleroi

Charleroi had one of its better offensive nights of the season Friday, but it was no match for Chartiers-Houston and playmaker Jimmy Sadler Jr.

The Cougars committed six turnovers and Sadler rushed for 235 yards with four touchdowns, as Charleroi fell, 48-13, in a Century Conference clash. The visitors tallied the final 27 points of the night.

Charleroi had its best possession of the season to open the second half as Levi Hutchin ended an eight-play, 69-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown to trim the deficit to 21-13 at the 7:58 mark of the third quarter.

“Without a doubt, that drive was the best drive of the season for us,” Charleroi coach Brady Barbero said. “We were focused and everyone made their blocks. Our backs hit the holes and pushed the pile. We attacked on offense in that drive, but we just couldn’t maintain that aggressiveness late in the game.”

That was the last time the Cougars (1-3, 1-3) found the end zone, as the Buccaneers (2-2, 2-1) plundered the next four touchdowns to blow the game open.

The visitors were aided by Charleroi’s penalties on the next possession, which ended with a 7-yard touchdown by Sadler Jr. The senior then tallied the dagger with an 80-yard scamper to the end zone at the 7:55 mark of the fourth quarter.

“Jimmy is a flat out playmaker,” C-H coach Terry Fetsko said. “He’s such a special player and really opens up our offense. He is so elusive and his burst is very underrated. His vision is excellent and he looks for those cutback lanes for those big runs. When he makes plays, we usually win games.”

The final two scores of the night were on a 64-yard interception return by Carson Craig and a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Nathan Cavallo.

Charleroi surprised the visitors on the opening kickoff, as the Cougars recovered the loose ball for the onside kick. Unfortunately, the home team turned the ball over on downs four plays later.
