Monessen falls to Mapletown, 30-6

Mapletown claimed its first victory of the season by downing Monessen, 30-6, in Tri-County South Conference play Friday.
The win for the Maples (1-3, 1-3) was their first over the Greyhounds (0-4, 0-4) since 2016.
Landan Stevenson played a pivotal role in the win, rushing for 201 yards and an 80-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The Maples took a 15-0 lead after one quarter of play as a safety and an 88-yard touchdown pass from Max Vanata to Lance Stevenson followed.
Mapletown extended its lead to 22-0 as Vanata, who completed 3 of 5 passes for 140 yards, found Brody Evans for a 39-yard score. Vanata also had a 2-yard scamper for a TD.
Monessen got its lone touchdown of the night on a 25-yard pass from Shane Swope Jr. to Nigier Foster. Swope was the Greyhounds’ leading rusher as he finished with 101 yards on the ground.
