Since dropping down to Class A in 2018, the Bentworth girls soccer team has dominated in four meetings with Charleroi.

The Bearcats swept the season series in each of the last two years, outscoring the Cougars, 36-0.

While it wasn’t the same dominant performance put on display in years past, Bentworth was once again on the winning side against its Section 2-A rivals Tuesday, capturing a 6-1 victory over visiting Charleroi at Bentworth Athletic Field.

Reagan Schreiber netted a hat trick, while Mackenzie Buttermore, Mallory Schreiber and Emily Kisner added one goal apiece to help the Bearcats (6-2, 4-2) extend their winning streak to six games.

“It was a tough one, but we knew that ultimately our depth was going to take over at some point,” said Bentworth head coach Tyler Hamstra, whose team held a slim 2-1 lead at halftime. “Charleroi is a really good team and this is the time of year when the attrition battle starts getting you. You always have to have it in your mind that it’s a marathon.”
