The Rostraver Police Department received an unexpected surprise Friday afternoon.

Walt and Roxanne Vinoski, owners of Rostraver’s Vinoski Winery and the Vinoski Foundation, presented a $7,000 check to the department as part of the couple’s continuing effort to support local police, charities and community efforts.

The donation took place inside the Rostraver Municipal Building with Rostraver Township Commission Chairman John Lorenzo and members of the Rostraver Police Department.

Since the donation was such a surprise, Rostraver officials and police don’t have the money earmarked yet, but said it will likely go toward ammunition, shields and guns.

“Wherever the immediate need is,” Lorenzo said of the donation.

He said the Vinoskis contacted the township Thursday night about giving the money and said donations such as the Vinoskis’ don’t go into the general fund.

“It’s not a common thing to get donations like this,” Lorenzo said. “It speaks volumes that they want to invest in the community and its safety. They are a big part of the community. We’re thankful for the Vinoskis.”
