Elizabeth Township commissioners have appointed 11 people to serve on the comprehensive plan steering committee, setting the stage for work to begin on the plan.
Commissioners Bart Rocco, who has been spearheading the project, said 16 people applied for the volunteer positions.
“The recommendation from the folks at (Environmental Planning and Design) was to keep the number to 10 or 11. They felt that was a good number,” Rocco said. “We looked at the group and we felt it was a representation of the people in the community. We had people active with the school board and people with resumes we thought we could work with and move the community forward.”
Committee members are Rocco, Commissioner Dan Poirier, Elizabeth Forward School Directors Ryan Hemminger and Thomas Sharkey, township code officers John Snelson and Gregg Butler, and residents Robert Crall, Jeff Smith, Russell Verbanec, Michael O’Rourke and Ted Grice. Commissioner Andrew Kuzma will serve as an alternate on the panel.
EPD, a Pittsburgh-based firm was hired by the township to prepare the comprehensive plan. Carolyn Yagle, the company’s director of planning and policy, will work with the volunteer panel.
“I want to get hold of Carolyn Yagle and get things scheduled,” Rocco said. “She’s going to be a lot of the driving force behind when we meet and what the meetings are like.”
