Martin A. Yavorsky, 92, of Donora, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020, at Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born July 23, 1928, in Donora, the son of the late Michael and Anna Yavorsky. Martin graduated from St. Dominic Parochial School in Donora in 1942, Donora High School with the Class of 1946 and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served actively from Feb. 7, 1951, to Feb. 6, 1953.
Martin worked for U.S. Steel in Donora until 1966, then in Pittsburgh until 1970. From 1970 until 1981, he worked as an engineer for the Bureau of Construction and Maintenance in the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. On Aug. 22, 1953, he married Ann Zewe Yavorsky, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2005. In addition to his parents and wife, Martin was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret; and a brother, Paul. Survivors include a sister, Ann of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, followed by a noon Mass of Christian burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora campus. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. In order to be compliant with the new “norm” of COVID-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 people at any given time inside the funeral home. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home. Guests may be asked to limit their visitation times so that all visitors will have the opportunity to pay their respects. Thank you.
