Trick or treating is “a go” in Washington Township.
Supervisors Jan Amoroso, Scott Hileman and Chuck Yusko during Wednesday’s meeting unanimously passed a motion permitting the Halloween tradition to carry on this year.
“We’re planning on having Halloween,” Yusko said, adding that trick or treat is slated for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
“As of now, everything is a go,” Yusko said.
Hileman said he has heard some municipalities have already elected to cancel trick or treating for this year.
“Yea, the kids are back in school, it’s the fall,” Amoroso said in response. “If anybody doesn’t want to participate they don’t have to. We hate to see them take away from the kids. They’ve had enough of a crazy year here,” she added.
“If anything comes up we can always cancel,” Yusko said.
Zoning Officer Bill Bergman asked if the township could create orange fliers that residents could hang on their home to let trick or treaters know they are giving out candy.
Yusko and Amoroso said they didn’t think that effort was necessary and encouraged residents to follow the tradition of turning on their porch light if they are handing out candy.
“With it being in the day now, nobody looks at the lights,” Bergman said. “Even if was a little piece of paper that they post on their doors that (says) ‘we are participating,’ that way they aren’t knocking on doors that aren’t participating.”
“You know kids are going to go to that house no matter what and they’re not going to open the door. They’re not going to participate one way or another,” Yusko said.
