Mon Valley municipalities such as Glassport, McKeesport and Versailles are urging residents to respond to the 2020 U.S. Census.
In March, homes across the country received invitations to complete the 2020 Census, and it has never been easier to respond on your own, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, whether it’s online, over the phone or by mail—without having to meet a census taker.
The deadline to respond to the census is Sept. 30.
As the bureau strives for a complete count, census takers will continue to follow up in person with homes across the country through Sept. 30 in an effort to reach those who didn’t respond on their own, according to a statement from the Census Bureau.
The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2. The U.S. has counted its population every 10 years since 1790. The results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year.
Population counts from the census and other information collected impact how much federal funding is allotted to things such as health clinics, fire departments, schools, roads and highways. The results also determine how many seats in Congress each state gets.
