The Belle Vernon Area School District announced Wednesday that some fans will be allowed in to watch Leopards football games this fall, while home and away fans will be able to attend BVA soccer games.
In a letter sent to the BVA community, Superintendent Dr. Michele Dowell said the district was waiting to see if state House Bill 2787, providing local school districts the ability to extend 2020-21 athletics and extra-curricular activities health and safety plays to cover spectators, is passed into law this week. If the state Senate approves the bill it will go to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk for a signature.
“The Belle Vernon Administration, Staff and Board of School Directors want to assure you that we recognize and comprehend the value that athletics, activities and arts, adds to the overall educational experience and development of our students,” Dowell said. “We recognize the value and importance in providing opportunities for family members the ability to watch and support their children in person during these once in a lifetime activities in a reasonable, responsible and safe manner in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
