Joseph Minjock – Monongahela
Joseph Minjock, 96, of Monongahela, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020 in his home. He was born Jan. 16, 1924 in Mungo, Forward Township, the son of Gregory “Harry” and Mary Struniak Minjock.
Joe was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monongahela where he was active in maintenance, painting and upkeeping the church. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. Employed at the Donora Zinc Works for over 40 years until its closing, Joe then went to work for US Steel, Irvin Works where he retired. Joe was the Vice President and last surviving officer of US Steel Local 1757. He was a member and instrumental in the construction of the Carroll American Legion, James C. Ford Post 949 in Dunkirk. He loved hunting, fishing, working in his vegetable garden, watching sports – especially football, hockey and NASCAR and spending time with his family. Joe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kutasie Minjock, with whom he celebrated 74 years of marriage on June 22, 2020; daughter, Kathy Rigby of Charleroi; two sons, Rick and wife Beverly Minjock of Morgantown, PA, Joseph Minjock of Lititz; five grandchildren, Gregory and wife Stacey Mayer, Jeffrey and wife Stacy Mayer, Larissa Lilly, Zachary and wife Nina Minjock, Ashley and husband Brett Shafer; ten great-grandchildren, Jace and Jaden Mayer, Jack, Kate and Alexandra Lilly, Rayna, Kayla and Ryder Minjock, Maddison Lawrence and Hayli Shafer; brother, Albert Minjock of Greenock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Rigby; daughter-in-law, Kay Minjock; five brothers and three sisters. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020 in the Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2020 with the Reverends Larry Coltura and Mark Woomer officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice, 100 Stoops Dr., Monongahela, PA 15063.
