All high school students in the Elizabeth Forward School District will start classes virtually next week after six student athletes and a part-time employee tested positive for COVID-19.
District Superintendent Dr. Todd Keruskin made the announcement Friday on the district’s website. Practices for the affected sports programs have been shut down for the next 14 days, with the participants being quarantined. Further actions related to the fall sports programs have not yet been determined.
“We are still evaluating the contact tracing,” he said.
Keruskin said all high school students will attend classes virtually for the first week, given the latest COVID-19 developments.
“Our goal will be to get back to hybrid. We will work with the Allegheny Department of Health,” he added.
Keruskin said every precaution is being taken as school opens with the hybrid model for students in kindergarten through eighth grades.
“In the classrooms we are requiring masks, and with the hybrid model, we are able to socially distance,” Keruskin said.
