Elizabeth will continue its efforts to keep PNC Bank downtown.

Borough officials have sent a letter to the bank asking for a face-to-face meeting, saying it has been a cornerstone of the community since before the 1980s.

“The bank has provided stability in the economic downturns that western Pennsylvania river towns have faced over the last several decades,” the letter states. “The Borough has made tremendous strides in development, growth, and the Borough has brought in a multitude of new businesses.

“Elizabeth is growing with the aid of a strong Elizabeth Area Development Corporation and PNC Bank is a strategic part of the overall growth. In fact, the Borough needs PNC Bank to accomplish the goals of the growing community as it has been for so many years.”

The letter goes on to say that the borough and bank have worked together over the past year to bring about a positive change downtown, specifically in the area of the bank.
