Bearcats prepared for playoff push

Last season was a year of chances and near misses for the Bentworth boys soccer team.
Five of their seven losses were decided by two goals or less. They were 5-4 in one-goal games and they barely missed the playoffs, just a half game out of the final postseason spot in Section 4-A.
Veteran coach Gary Amos, entering his 15th season with the Bearcats, will need to replace seven seniors and get his young squad ready for 2020 if they want to make it back to the playoffs.
“With everything going on in the world, this has definitely been a unique situation at camp for us,” said Amos, who holds an overall record of 144-104-14. “We have been following the guidelines and making sure everything is safe for everybody. The boys have really responded and brought a lot of energy. At the end of the day, it’s still soccer and it’s still practice.”
The Bearcats went 10-7-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the section and missed the playoffs for the second year in a row. Since 2003, Bentworth has qualified for the playoffs nine times, winning three section titles and advancing to the WPIAL quarterfinals three times.
