“Stop for a cause!”
“Stop for a cause!”
Nine-year-old Corinne Elton shouted like a town crier at the intersection of Sixth Street and Indiana Avenue in Glassport earlier this week to attract thirsty customers to a lemonade stand.
Corinne, her aunt Abigail Horwat, 14, and her 3-year-old brother Tristan Elton spent two days this week selling ice-cold lemonade and Sharkleberry Fin Kool-Aid to raise money for two area nonprofits geared toward animals.
Supervised by Corinne and Tristan’s mother, Samantha Hawk, the youngsters raised $604, which will be donated to Who Rescued Who Humane Society in Clairton and Cindy’s Memorial Bark Park in Port Vue.
Hawk said the kids recently approached her asking if they could open a lemonade stand to raise money for a good cause. After an insightful conversation, they landed on Who Rescued Who and the dog park.
Asked why she wanted to donate to the two nonprofits, Corinne simply said “I like helping animals,” adding that she adores her cat and three dogs.
Abigail said she wanted to get involved because she too is an animal lover.
“I have a lot of animals,” she said. “I went to the pet shelter and there were a lot of animals there, so I figured they could use some help.”
Asked if he was having fun raising money to benefit dogs and cats, Tristan jumped and shouted “yeah!”
