Rostraver Township: Open house on comprehensive plan set for Sept. 9

It will take more than a pandemic to keep Rostraver Township from gathering public input and moving forward with its updated comprehensive plan.

The plan open house will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Pavilion No. 1 in Cedar Creek County Park in order to accommodate the largest number of people possible. Safe distancing must be practiced and masks must be worn by all participants. Hand sanitizer will be provided.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s positive or negative, I just want their feedback. What do you want your community to look like?” said township planner Tamira Spedaliere.

Holding the open house at the park will allow as many as 350 people to attend, even with social distancing protocols in place.

“It’s the largest pavilion they have that’s covered. If we have it inside, anywhere, we could only have about 20 people,” Spedaliere said. “We’re hoping for at least 100. There’s parking and it’s ADA accessible.”

Spedaliere also wants to stream the event on the internet either live or recorded so those who can’t get to the park can participate in some fashion.

She said the comprehensive plan is the guiding document for future development in the township and officials try to keep it updated.

“We use it. We updated it in 2008 and it’s good for 10 years,” Spedaliere said. “In 2017, we started on it, but our consultant got sick and since passed away. That was when we brought Mr. (Dennis) Puko on. He had worked on the other side of it for the state.”
