Partisanship put aside for golf

Golfers, elected officials, business owners and community members from near and far were on hand for state Sen. Jim Brewster’s golf outing Monday afternoon at the Youghiogheny Country Club in Elizabeth Township.

The McKeesport Democrat held his 15th annual golf outing and luncheon, which brings together both Democrats and Republicans to network and socialize in an effort to improve the Mon Valley.

According to Brewster, this year’s event was the largest turnout yet.

“The turnout is wonderful,” he said during a break between rounds of golf. “This is a great group of people. They help their communities.

“This is a beautiful course and it’s a great way to show off Elizabeth Township. These are relationships you can’t replace. Everyone from engineers to law enforcement are here.”

Elected officials, including state House candidate Nick Pisciottano, D-West Mifflin, and state Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills, also attended.

“I’m here to support one of my colleagues,” said Costa, who works with Brewster frequently by representing adjacent communities and shared school districts in Woodland Hills and West Mifflin Area. “He’s very knowledgeable and he understands the issues very well. There’s no bigger advocate for the Mon Valley than Jim. He’s always had a good feel for the people he represents.”
