Sound issues disrupt Donora meeting

Donora Borough Council met by telephone Thursday night in light of concerns about COVID-19, but there were some issues with the sound.
Councilman Joe Greco asked why council was meeting by phone instead of in the borough building and said it was difficult to hear on the telephone.
Council President Mike McDowell said the move is temporary due to COVID-19 concerns and that council was doing the best it could.
“We’re trying to do the best we can with what we have,” McDowell said. “If we need to have meetings in person, we’ll take a vote to see if we need to have the meetings in person.”
McDowell said some phones may not be as fast as others and there may be a delay for some people.
Shortly afterward, there began to be several disruptive noises that McDowell called attention to and asked for them to stop.
At one point, Solicitor Steve Toprani suggested everyone who wasn’t speaking at the moment should mute their phones so there wouldn’t be background noise. For a few minutes it was much quieter, but then it began to sound as if someone was tapping on a small drum.
Again McDowell pointed it out and said with sounds like that he could understand Greco’s concern and asked for it to stop.
