Ringgold families must choose education option by Friday

Students in the Ringgold School District will return to classes Sept. 1 — in one form or another — but their families have to decide by Friday the method they plan to use.

Ringgold families can choose a traditional option, with students attending classes in person, an online option or they can attend the Ringgold Cyber Academy.

For now, the district plans to allow families to shift from one option to another at any time during the school year. For example, if a family chooses online classes for the first nine weeks and then feels more comfortable moving to an in-person class situation, they can do that.

On the other hand, if a student or a family member becomes ill and must quarantine, they can switch from traditional classes to the online option.

After these choices were rolled out, the district began offering a Frequently Asked Questions document on its website July 30.

Friday night, acting Superintendent Randy Skrinjorich uploaded a second FAQ document that is much longer and is intended to respond to many of the questions the district has gotten from parents since the first round of information was presented.

In a letter to parents, Skrinjorich said offering the Aug. 14 deadline for families will provide time to ask questions while also giving the district enough time to finish planning before the start of the school year.

In the letter, Skrinjorich also addressed the use of a hybrid model of schooling that will be used in some neighboring districts. For example, in some schools students will attend in-person classes some days of the week and use online learning the rest of the week.
