‘Mary’ Rita Rose Pelter – Greenock

“Mary” Rita Rose Pelter, 75, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020. She was born Sept. 28, 1944, in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Larence and Elsie Hayes Rose. Rita was a resident of Greenock for more than 40 years. Educated as a teacher, she spent 10 years teaching full-time and many more as a substitute, touching the lives of all students she taught. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church her entire life. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and traveling with her husband, crisscrossing the United States many times over and visiting all 50 states and several countries. More than anything else, she loved traveling to spend time with her family and friends. She will be missed deeply by all. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James; son, Jeffrey (Alicia) Pelter of Overland Park, Kansas; daughters, Melissa (Darren) Handley of Fayetteville, Ga.; and Janice (Eric) Nolan of Guilford, Conn.; grandchildren, Adam, Nicholas, Makaila, Ethan, Ellsie, Noelle, Cora and Aubrey; sisters-in-law, JeanAnn Rose and Virginia Rose of Pittsburgh and Jean Putt of Cleveland; along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and loving friends. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by brothers, Sonny (sister-in-law, Minnie) Tommy, Bobby, Donald (sister-in-law, Mary) and Paul; and parents-in-law, Marion J. and Dorothy M. Pelter. Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, (masks and social distancing are required) at GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township, 412-751-5000, Drew J. Gilbert, director. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, Elizabeth, at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, with the Rev. Thomas Wagner officiating.
